BRILLIANT BALL A BRILLIANT SUCCESS!
Hawthorn Community Chest’s 2018 Brilliant Ball drew a large crowd of local people to celebrate the 60th birthday of Boroondara’s most-loved charity. Held on Saturday 2 June at Leonda, guests included the patrons of Hawthorn Community Chest, The Hon Josh Frydenberg MP, John Pesutto MP and Mrs Lesley Gillespie OAM.
Addressing the capacity audience of nearly 400 people, HCC’s President, Sarah Curtis said, “We wanted to mark our 60th Birthday with an event – not only because it’s a celebration of our longevity, but as a reminder to you all that the work we do is still relevant and still needed.”
The Ball was HCC’s major fundraiser for the year and raised just under $80,000. Corporate support came from Bakers Delight, Bunnings, Case Meallin, Hanes, HFH Auto Group and Kay & Burton, with all the table flowers donated by Glenferrie Road florist, Panache.
The evening was directed by Master of Ceremonies, Sue Smethurst, a Hawthorn local, and featured a pledge auction conducted by Kay & Burton’s Scott Patterson and Sam Wilkinson.
“Our Ball has been so successful thanks to the involvement of our local community. Local traders, local companies and local families have donated for the raffle and on-line Gala Bid auction through to the lighting, graphic design, signage and audio displays. We love our local businesses, and we are enormously grateful to each and every one of them who supported our Brilliant Ball,” Sarah said.
“Importantly, all the money we raised on the night will go towards funding the grant applications we receive each month, and that we as a Committee approve. This money will allow us to continue supporting those in most need in our Boroondara community through funding necessitous items that many people could not otherwise afford,” she said.
Hawthorn Community Chest is run by a volunteer committee of eleven people, including former Mayor of Hawthorn, Jane Nathan. Longstanding committee member, Terry Pacini, has been involved for over 25 years.
