Business Supporters connect with their local community

HCC formally launched its Business Supporter Program (BSP) at its President’s Cocktail Party on Wednesday 6 March 2019.  The event – attended by over 50 prominent local business people – was hosted at the stunning Hawthorn home of HCC’s Patron, Lesley Gillespie OAM and her husband Roger Gillespie OAM.

The BSP launch provided an opportunity for the HCC Committee to thank the businesses that are already part of the BSP, and to showcase the work HCC is doing in our community.

The BSP is a key strategic fundraising initiative for HCC. In discussing the launch, Andrew Tait, President of HCC said, “It helps support the funding of necessitous or emergency grants to our local community and has provided an opportunity for HCC to develop and extend its programs,” he said.

“Over the past few years, HCC has seen a significant increase in grant applications relating to education needs. Thanks to the support of the BSP, HCC was able to launch an Education Pilot earlier this year. The Pilot is currently providing financial assistance to four high-school aged children. The funding enables these children to access school essentials such as school books, MYKI cards and attend school camps – and importantly, provides security for the family in knowing that most school-based needs are covered for the year.

“Our hope is to extend the Pilot in 2020 to other local children who need a hand up. Our aim is to eventually commit to supporting them throughout their entire, secondary schooling, not just for one year. The BSP has provided us with security of income, which allows us to provide security of education to these families in need,” Andrew said.

Members of the BSP receive updates detailing the grants HCC makes each month, and the activities HCC is undertaking. Members also receive invitations to all of HCC’s functions, both business related and social, and be given first access to any sponsorship or branding opportunities.

Last year HCC held its successful 60th Anniversary Brilliant Ball, and our next fundraiser is a Trivia Night booked for 3 May 2019.
