Hawthorn Community Chest

Lesley was appointed Patron of Hawthorn Community Chest in August 2016.

The Hon. Josh Frydenberg MP was appointed Patron of Hawthorn Community Chest in May 2013.

Mr John Pesutto was appointed Patron of Hawthorn Community Chest in February 2017.


Andrew Tait, President (joined 2009)
A Boroondara resident since 1996, Andrew has three boys attending local schools. Andrew joined HCC as Treasurer in April 2009 until 2013 when he stepped down from the Committee for a time, returning in early 2014 as a Vice-President, and in 2017 Andrew also added the role of Treasurer. Andrew is a financial services executive at an industry super fund. He is CPA qualified, holds an MBA, B.Ec and B.A and is a passionate supporter of MFC. Andrew is also President of Glenferrie Primary School Council. Andrew was elected President at our 2018 AGM.

Chris Kendall, Vice-President (joined 2018)
Chris is a Boroondara resident, married, with three children who attend the local primary school. He is a co-founder of a renewable energy company with expertise in treasury management and infrastructure investment. Chris hopes to strengthen the Boroondara community by helping those in need. He joined the Committee at the August 2018 AGM.

Jo Rush, Vice-President (joined 2014)
Jo was very involved in the Hawthorn community during the years her three children attended local kindergarten and school. Joining Hawthorn Community Chest has enabled her to continue this contribution. She has a background in consulting and previously worked in corporate communications.

Lisa Fletcher, Public Officer (joined 2012)
Lisa has lived in the area with her three children for 17 years. She is a corporate lawyer and is actively involved in schools, sports and other community groups. She is a strong believer that the Hawthorn Community Chest plays an important role locally.

Dean Ardern, Treasurer (joined 2018)
Dean lives in Hawthorn with his partner, two children, both of whom attend a local school, and two dogs. Employed by a mid-tier chartered accounting firm, Dean works with a number of NFPs to assist them in meeting their reporting obligations. Dean expressed interest in supporting HCC events and further discussion led to Dean joining HCC’s Committee as its Treasurer at HCC’s August 2018 AGM.

David Bonnett, Committee Member (joined 2019)
David is a technology and management consultant based in Surrey Hills. He has a long history of involvement with not for profits in the US, New Zealand and Australia.
David is excited to be part of the Hawthorn Community Chest and helping the Committee meet our mission of supporting those in need across Boroondara.

Sandra (Sandy) Blackburn, Committee Member (joined 2017)
Sandy brings enormous experience in HR and recruitment to the HCC Committee, having held senior positions in companies in the retail, technology and energy sectors both locally and internationally. She has two children who attend local schools and looks forward to continuing her community involvement.

Sarah Curtis, Committee Member (joined 2011)
Sarah has been living in Hawthorn for almost 20 years, has four children and is actively involved in the community through schools and sporting clubs. With a PhD and currently working as a Business Manager in a Health and Wellbeing company, Sarah has a strong commitment to making a positive difference in the community.

David Gorton, Committee Member (joined 2013)
David is a Risk Management Specialist with three children at local schools. He works in a publicly listed company and is a keen contributor to this community.

Claudia Haeger – Committee Member (joined 2019)
Claudia is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, with a passion for strategy, vision and innovation. She is the Chief Operating Officer at a Hawthorn-based accounting firm and is a keen contributor to this community. Claudia joined HCC’s Committee in April 2019.

Tricia Maclean, Committee Member (joined 2018)
With fond memories of attending a Boroondara high school and a long-term resident raising three young children in Surrey Hills, Tricia is passionate about giving back to the community, and supporting a vibrant not-for-profit sector. A financial and investment professional, Tricia sits on the social and fundraising Committee at her children’s kindergarten as well as other community and philanthropic Committees. Tricia was inducted to the Committee at the August 2018 AGM.

Tony McHarg, Committee Member (joined 2016)
Tony has been searching for some years for the right opportunity to contribute and was attracted to HCC after seeing and hearing how it operates within our local community as a “grass roots” provider, helping identifiable members of our community. He hopes his involvement in supporting HCC will help instil a sense of appreciation and community participation in his children.

Jane Nathan, Committee Member (joined 1988)
Jane Nathan is a director with a strategic and enthusiastic approach to strengthening and engaging communities. As a former Councillor, Mayor of Hawthorn and Commissioner and Administrator at Brimbank City Council, she uses her networks to make things happen.

Terry Pacini, Committee Member (joined 1995)
Terry lived his early years in Hawthorn, went to school in Kew, returned to Hawthorn, is a former local businessman, and is still involved in local retail. He has been active on the Committee for more than 20 years, and is a Life Governor. Terry’s attitude has always been ‘let’s have fun while raising money to help those locals not as fortunate as us’.

Kia Sadler , Committee Member (joined 2017)
A resident of Hawthorn, Kia has three children attending local schools. With a health and medical background, Kia works as a sports physiotherapist and is involved in the local sporting community through rowing, soccer, basketball and netball. Kia believes that community involvement is an important part of a healthy, active and engaged life.
